What is AAC?AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication, which refers to any form of communication OTHER than verbal production. This can be in the form of: gestures, sign language, pictures, symbols, buttons, writing/texting/e-mail, communication devices, iPads with communication apps, speech-generating devices, or a combination of any of these!
Who can benefit from AAC?Everyone! AAC allows those who are unable to talk use something else to help them communicate with those around them. Every person has the right to communicate their wants and needs, share their ideas, protest appropriately, make jokes, tell you what they like and don't like, and socialize with those around them! If your child is unable to adequately communicate all of their wants and needs, they may be a great candidate for AAC!
If you think that your child may be able to benefit from AAC in order to functionally communicate, please give us a call and we can assist you in setting up an AAC evaluation! |
